Our Farm and Our Cashmere Goats

The first two goats tethered to a tree in 1988 have become home to the first Cashmere Goat farm in Italy, center for a genetic data base for selection of the Cashmere Goat in Europe, the site of the legal offices for the first Italian Cashmere Goat Association (CapCashIt) and the only source internationally for CASHMERE GOAT'S MILK SKINCARE.   Here  is where our goats are bred, selected, handled and combed, and where all the raw material for our exclusive products comes from. Our Goat Farm is the fulcrum around which a series of agricultural and commercial activities now thrive:  selective breeding of our animals, manual harvesting of the cashmere fiber and goat’s milk, hand weaving of their fiber, and last but certainly not least, the use of our goats in a multitude of inventive, original, and 'alternative' ways.

We believe that animals can and should be raised humanely and with respect, taking into consideration not only their basic physical needs but also their sophisticated and complex social structure, innate intelligence, and quirky personalities:  since 1995 we have raised our goats in the most natural and healthy way possible, grazing free-range with their young among the cypress-lined Tuscan hills.

Before there was a label for it,  we have raised our goats the only way that makes sense (or cents!):  browsing unused and marginal farmland unsuitable for other purposes,  improving infested pasture lands, clearing off brush, weeds and undergrowth from abandoned terraces and overgrown woodland, taking advantage of their rustic physiology and capacity to TURN WEEDS INTO PROFIT.  SUSTAINABILITY is the benchmark of every phase of our farm production:  no fossil fuels, no chemicals of any kind, no hormones, no antibiotics or feeds are used to raise our goats;  all vegetable and animal residues are returned to the land as manure and mulch,  our cashmere is left its undyed, softly natural colors.  What we take from the land we give back two-fold, to produce  a universally recognized luxury product, entirely traceable from the raw materials to the finished products. 

From a one-man (or rather, woman) enterprise, the CHIANTI CASHMERE COMPANY now employs two full-time employees on its Tuscan farm LA PENISOLA in Radda in Chianti (Tuscany), works in close cooperation with several soap manufacturers and gives work to over a dozen artisans, who work with the full range of natural, undyed fibers to produce handwoven accessories for the home and person.  The line of CASHMERE GOAT'S MILK SKINCARE products - created and formulated by Kravis, and constantly improved with the help of skincare specialists and dermatologists, - as well as accessories woven from only the finest natural fibers - are now sold internationally both on-line as well as through selected boutiques and shops.
